School rallies to support boy's family
New Zealand- A "lovely boy'' who nearly died when a dressing gown cord coincidently became tangled around his neck remains in an induced coma, but has every chance of recovering, his school principal says.
Manaaki Ropiha, 8, was standing on a box while playing at the clothesline behind his Panmure home yesterday morning when he slipped and became entangled in the cord, which was pegged up to dry next to the dressing gown.
"It was just a really horrible - really horrible - unfortunate accident,'' said Tamaki Primary School principal Corinne Hansell.
"I conversed with Manaaki's mum quite fully this morning and she told me she was in the back yard tidying up some things and she told Manaaki to get away from the clothesline and to stop playing with the dressing gown belt on the clothesline,'' she said.
"Myself, years ago I lost a cousin's daughter who was playing with a skipping rope on her deck and she fell over the other side with it wrapped around her neck and she died. So I know how accidents do happen for children sometimes.''
Ms Hansell visited Manaaki and his mum, Kara Ropiha, at Middlemore Hospital this morning. "I was there when the doctors were testing him and he was just showing stable signs so there's every hope that he will recover.''

He remained in an induced coma, and it would probably be a few days before it is known how he has been affected.
A Middlemore Hospital spokeswoman said Manaaki remained in a critical condition.
The school community had rallied around his family, Ms Hansell said.
The school community had rallied around his family, Ms Hansell said.
"The school is a very close unit - we are very much a family. One of our big values is whanaungatanga - building family relationships - and we have everybody at the doorstep just waiting to see what they can do to help.''
She said Manaaki was "one of our babies''.
"He's a lovely, lovely boy and a lovely learner. I cannot even begin to describe how we felt this morning. Everybody's just hanging out waiting for the next bit of news.''
The school was offering support to its students, she said.
On the school website, a grinning Manaaki names Bruno Mars as his favourite musician and Subway as his favourite food. He said he wants to join the Army when he grows up.
Senior Sergeant Junior Abraham told the Herald on Sunday Manaaki had somehow wrapped a dressing gown tie around his neck.
He was unable to call for help, and his mother was unaware of what happened until she turned around.
His distraught mother pulled him from the line and rushed him to a neighbour who performed CPR until emergency services arrived.
Neighbour Charlotte Liddicoat worked on him until the ambulance arrived. "It was a horrible, horrible accident,'' she said.
Ms Liddicoat knows Manaaki well, both as a teacher aide at Tamaki Primary School and as a neighbour of five years.
"He is a lovely boy, I can't imagine what his mother is going through,'' she said.
Victim Support had visited Manaaki's house to offer help to other children who had witnessed the ordeal.
"It was really awful and it was horrible for these little ones to see their friend like that."
Summary
A little boy nearly died when dressing gown. My Opinion:
The little boy should not stands on a box while he is playing at the clothesline behind his Panmure home. This is a very dangerous action and as his mom, she is supposed to taking good care of him since he is only eight. He is young enough and doesn't know what is harm for him. For me, the mom of the little boy should be more caution because normally boys are much active if compare to girls.

Younger generation in tune with Mid-Autumn fest tradition
GEORGE TOWN: More of the younger generation are joining in the Mid-Autumn Festival tradition, with many making last-minute preparations to spend quality time with their families.
For student Celine Fong, the Mid-Autumn Festival which falls today is just like another Chinese New Year a time to be spent with family.
“It's the time for my family members to gather for a reunion,” said the 18-year-old.
“After the dinner, we will go outdoors to enjoy the scenery while feasting on mooncakes and lighting up lanterns together.”
Fong and her friends, Saw Phaik Yean, 23, and Lee Zi Qi, 21, were spotted purchasing lanterns and mooncakes at the Tai Tong Restaurant in Lebuh Cintra yesterday and were spoilt for choice with the various designs and colours.
The restaurant's manager James Lee said lanterns had become very popular this year.
“We've sold more than 5,000 lanterns already, with the dragon and Angry Birds ones proving to be a hit among customers.
“I have tourists coming from as far as China, Hong Kong, Canada, the United States, Australia and Britain to buy my lanterns in bulk,” he said, adding that he had also sold some 8,000 mooncakes over the past month.
The festival also known as the Mooncake or Lantern Festival marks the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.
Since the Shang Dynasty over 3,500 years ago, the eighth lunar month in autumn was deemed the most auspicious day for celebrating the harvest and families would venture out to admire the moon.
During the Yuan Dynasty when China was ruled by Mongolians, legend has it that rebels would pass messages hidden in mooncakes.
There will be a Mid-Autumn FestoRama in Beach Street today from 10am to 10pm, featuring various events such as Creative Lantern Competition, Creative Mooncake Competition, a parade, games and contests.

This is one of the way for the childrens know how and where does the story begin.

My Opinion:
As a parents of a teenager nowdays, they have to try to communicate with them to strenghten their relation between each other and try to understand how are they actually think and feel. As a caring parents, they have to spend some times on their children no matter how busy they are. Teenagers nowdays need attention. They will do whatever they like to grap other people's attention. So as a caring and resposible parents, they have to do their own duty to avoid their kids from running out from house.

Journalism Com1106
I am in the second semester now and there is a subject "Introduction To Journalism", is compulsory for every mass comm student at Inti College. As I know, Journalism is more about writing, reading, and catching up with the latest news of local and international. because it is not the field I really interested in, so I will try my best to understand what is it talking about. As a mass comm student, we are compulsory to learn everything that related to Mass Communication. According to our seniors, Journalism is not as easy as ABC. They advise us to put more efforts on it. For me, nothing is simple, so we must separate our time wisely to do something that will comes advantages to us. I wish all of us will be able to do well in this paper and have a lots of fun in class.
Something About Her ♥
"Sometimes its hard to introduce yourself because you know yourself so well and then you do not know where to start with. She hopes that the impression about herself and your impression about her will not so different. Eighteen years ago, she came bounding into a a world of love and laughter. She is a person who is positive about every aspect of life. She likes the country's peace of New Zealand. She likes music, likes the music when flowing on her face. She likes sport. Jog and plays basketball to fill up her free time. She likes to look at the cloud in the sky with blank mind. She likes delicious food and comfortable dress. She likes people and she likes to smile. She always confident that her world was close to perfect. "To whom much is given, of Him will much be required." As she moves forward in her life, she hopes that she can begin to see other people from two vantage points: theirs and hers. By doing this, she will understand that with her every position or emotion there may be somebody else standing at an equally valid, yet possibly opposite point. And for them, that life has a different hue. ♥" Opps, almost forgot to intro who is that person in this short introduction, that is me : Ng Yan Wei
